Fashion 4 Food are proud to support Magic Breakfast a registered charity (England and Wales: 1102510; Scotland: SC048202) who work to provide healthy breakfasts to over 48,400 UK children every school day as essential fuel for learning.

They form partnerships with schools, delivering food and expert support so that every child at risk of hunger has access to a nutritious breakfast, in a safe, stigma-free, environment.

There are 480 Magic Breakfast partner schools – primary, secondary, SEN schools and Pupil Referral Units, located in areas of disadvantage in England and Scotland.

Independent research by the Education Endowment Foundation and Institute for Fiscal Studies found that Y2 pupils in schools with Magic Breakfast provision boosted their progress in reading, writing and maths by an average of two months’ progress per year. View the Full Study Here:

Teachers at the charity’s partner schools report improved: concentration in class, energy levels, readiness to learn, general behaviour, healthy eating habits, emotional wellbeing, physical health and wellbeing, attendance and attainment in pupils who receive Magic Breakfast provision.

Carmel McConnell MBE founded Magic Breakfast after she interviewed five head teachers in Hackney, East London in the year 2000 who all told her the same thing, that the biggest barrier to them being able to teach was hunger among their pupils. Shocked that such poverty existed on the doorstep of a successful global financial centre, Carmel started buying and delivering breakfast food to these five schools. As demand grew, Carmel founded Magic Breakfast to continue the charity’s mission to end hunger as a barrier to education everywhere.

In March 2018 Magic Breakfast, in partnership with Family Action, was chosen by the Department for Education to deliver the new National School Breakfast Programme to over 1,770 schools in England. The programme is due to run until March 2020.
